Your Howdens Kitchen, Fitted in Caerphilly

Most Caerphilly kitchens we look at sit in post war estate housing through Penyrheol, Trecenydd, Hendredenny and Lansbury Park, and they nearly all share the same two obstacles: a solid concrete ground floor and a boiler parked exactly where you wanted a tall unit. Both of those need deciding before a Howdens order is placed rather than after, and because Howdens is trade only that order goes through our account anyway. That means the layout, the plan and the ordering all get resolved in one conversation instead of three.

A concrete ground floor changes the shape of a Howdens plan more than any door choice will. There are no joists to drop a waste pipe between, so moving a sink or a washing machine to a different wall has to be done along the wall, through the plinth void or by chasing, and each of those has a different cost and a different finished look. We work out which one applies at the survey and show you exactly what a layout change involves, because it is far better to design the kitchen around what the floor allows than to order a plan that assumes a suspended floor. The boiler is the other one. You can design around it with a Howdens door on a boiler cupboard so the run reads continuous, or have it relocated by a Gas Safe registered engineer, which we coordinate. We price both and let you choose.

The estates are kinder than a city terrace when it comes to getting the kitchen in. Most Caerphilly properties have a driveway or off street space, which we will use for the van if you are happy, and there is usually room for a tail lift delivery. What catches people out is the turning head on a close, or bollards on a footpath link, so tell us about those and we will factor them into the delivery booking. Howdens units come rigid and already built, so once they are through the door the fitting moves quickly, but they take up more storage space in the meantime than most people expect. We aim the delivery slot for a day or two before the start rather than a fortnight.

On the newer developments the wall build is plasterboard dot and dabbed onto blockwork, which means every Howdens wall unit needs a fixing long enough to reach the block rather than one that grips the board. Head north up the Aber Valley to Abertridwr and Senghenydd and it is hillside colliery terrace again, solid walls, steeper access and levelling work throughout. Whichever of those you are in, the specialist work is done by properly qualified trades, gas by a Gas Safe registered engineer and electrics by a qualified electrician, you get a fixed written quote after the home survey, and the fitting carries a workmanship guarantee with public liability insurance behind it.

  • Full Howdens range experience
  • Trade depot coordination
  • Precision unit fitting
  • Integrated appliance setup

Fitting Howdens kitchens

Howdens sell trade only, so the account and the depot relationship sit with the fitter rather than the homeowner. That makes the depot coordination part of the job, from checking the plan and lead times to arranging the delivery slot and sorting any replacement parts. Howdens units come rigid and their ranges change, so we work from the current catalogue rather than assumptions.
