The rail then gets set dead level off a datum taken from the highest point of the floor rather than off the skirting, because in a house that has moved for a century the skirting is not a reference for anything.
The other thing people underestimate is the assembly. Unlike a rigid kitchen, every IKEA carcass arrives flat and has to be built before it can be hung, and that is a real stage of the job rather than an afternoon. In a Cardiff terrace with no garage that also means finding somewhere for the boxes, which is usually the front room for a few days. We tell you at the survey which delivery date works best so you are not living around a stack of cardboard for a fortnight, and we take the packaging away as we go rather than filling your yard with it.
