IKEA METOD Kitchens Fitted Across Rhondda Cynon Taf
Rhondda Cynon Taf runs from Treherbert and Hirwaun at the top of the valleys down to Llantrisant and Llanharan on the flat, and an IKEA kitchen meets three completely different wall types across that distance. METOD hangs the whole run off a suspension rail fixed to the wall, so the question that actually matters is what your wall is made of. We are based in Mountain Ash near the middle of the county borough, so we see all three in the same working week.
In the northern valleys, Treherbert, Treorchy, Ferndale, Maerdy, Aberdare and Mountain Ash, you are almost always on Pennant sandstone with no cavity. The plugs supplied in the IKEA box are aimed at modern blockwork and plasterboard, so they are simply the wrong fixing and we use resin anchors or long frame fixings set into sound stone. Around Pontypridd and Porth the same terraces are mixed with larger bay fronted houses and a good deal of council built block, which is more forgiving. South of the ridge at Llantrisant, Talbot Green, Pontyclun and Llanharan the stock turns modern, timber stud and dot and dab plasterboard, where the problem reverses and every fixing has to be long enough to reach the block or land on a stud. Same kitchen, three different jobs.
What does not change is the assembly. Every METOD carcass arrives flat and is built on site, so a full kitchen means a substantial build stage before anything gets hung, and we agree where that happens at the survey. We also check the order against the room before delivery day, because IKEA planner designs regularly miss fillers, cover panels and the right number of legs, and a valley terrace needs more of all three than a Llanharan new build does. Cutting carcasses down and scribing around chimney breasts, boxed pipework and out of square walls is routine in the older stock.
Access is the other variable across the county borough. Some of the Rhondda Fawr terraces above Treorchy and Treherbert are tighter for delivery vehicles than the equivalent rows in the Cynon, and rear lane access is common and often the easier route with flat packs. Base units are levelled individually on their legs so the worktop runs true whatever the floor is doing, and worktop cuts are sealed properly. We are fit only, so you buy the kitchen from IKEA and we install it, coordinating a Gas Safe registered engineer and a qualified electrician, working Monday to Friday, eight until six, with Saturdays by appointment. Every property gets a home survey and a fixed written quote.

Fitting IKEA kitchens
METOD is a suspension rail system, so the whole kitchen hangs off a rail that has to be fixed dead level into something solid. In the stone walled terraces common across the Cynon and Taff valleys that means proper fixings rather than the plasterboard plugs supplied in the box. There is also a genuine assembly stage with IKEA, since every carcass arrives flat and has to be built before it can be hung.
