Ordered a Wren Kitchen in Merthyr Tydfil? We Fit It
Merthyr Tydfil is about 20 minutes from our base, up the A4059 or the A470, and it is a borough of two very different kitchens. Dowlais, Penydarren and Twynyrodyn are Pennant sandstone terraces with a narrow rear outshot, while the Gurnos and the later estates are block and far more regular. A Wren order goes in the same way in both, but the fixings, the carry in and the plan check are not the same job at all.
Solid Pennant sandstone will hold a run of loaded Wren wall units for the next fifty years, but not on the plugs that come in the box. Those are aimed at modern blockwork and plasterboard. On sandstone with old lime mortar behind it we use resin anchors or long frame fixings set into sound stone rather than into a joint, and we drill on hammer only where the stone will take it so we are not blowing out the face. We check the wall at the survey and price the right fixings in. In the Gurnos and the other post war estates it is generally blockwork and much more straightforward, and on the newer developments at Trefechan it is dot and dab where the fixing has to reach the block behind the board.
The rear outshot is where most Merthyr Wren plans need looking at. It gives you one usable wall, a back door swing eating into the corner and a ceiling that may or may not take a tall larder, and a showroom drawing does not know any of that. We measure the real openings and the existing waste and supply runs, then tell you honestly what fits. Getting a dishwasher and a washing machine into a narrow outshot usually means something gives, whether that is a slimline dishwasher, an integrated washer under the worktop or moving one appliance elsewhere. Better to know that before Wren build the order than after a rigid unit arrives that cannot be trimmed.
Wren deliver the whole kitchen in one drop, and on the tighter Penydarren and Dowlais streets the vehicle will stop at the nearest safe point rather than your front door. Set aside somewhere dry and reasonably level for the boxes, because a full kitchen takes more room than people expect and a damp floor will swell a chipboard carcass. We check the delivery against the plan early so a missing panel or a damaged door goes back to Wren while we carry on with the rest. A straight replacement in the same layout is commonly three to five working days, longer if walls come out, services move or the floor needs levelling, and the written quote tells you which you are looking at.

Fitting Wren kitchens
Wren supply rigid, pre-built units rather than flat-pack, so the fitting work is less about assembly and more about getting a dead level run across floors that are rarely level. Wren also deliver the whole kitchen in one drop, which means you need somewhere dry to store it and a fitter booked for a date that lines up with that delivery. We survey before ordering wherever possible so the plan matches the room rather than the other way round.
