Wren Kitchen Fitting Twelve Minutes From Aberdare

Aberdare is twelve minutes straight up the A4059 from our yard in Mountain Ash, which is why it is one of the areas we work in most weeks. The long Victorian miners terraces through Aberaman, Cwmbach and Cwmaman were built stepped along the valley side with a rear lane behind most rows, and that lane is very often the best way to get a Wren delivery of built units into the house.

Because Wren units arrive rigid rather than flat, the route in matters more than it would with a flat pack range. Carrying a built base unit through the front door, past the front room and up a narrow hallway is possible but slow, and a back gate off the lane is usually quicker and keeps the mess out of the house. What we check at the survey is whether the lane is passable, whether the gate will take a 1000mm unit and whether there are steps up into the yard. All three catch people out, and all three are easier to plan than to solve on delivery morning.

These houses were built on a slope and the floors show it, often falling by a good part of an inch across a three metre run. Wren base units are levelled individually off their legs, packed where they need it and the plinth scribed to follow the floor, so the worktop line runs true and the laminate joint does not give the game away. Where the fall is severe we will tell you at survey whether the floor is better levelled first, because it is cheaper to sort before a rigid run goes in than after. Older properties around Trecynon and Gadlys often still have a bricked up chimney breast or a redundant back boiler recess in the kitchen wall, and those either eat into the run on the Wren plan or give you a genuinely useful alcove if they are squared off or opened out properly.

On worktops the choice changes the programme, not just the look. A Wren laminate top is cut, jointed and bolted on site during the same visit as the units, so the work runs straight through. Quartz or stone ordered through Wren is templated by their supplier once the base units are in and level, then made off site and fitted later, which typically puts a week or two between the units going in and the finished surface arriving. We build that into the plan so you know in advance. Aberdare is inside our normal working area with no travel charge, and that covers Trecynon, Llwydcoed, Gadlys, Robertstown, Abernant, Cwmdare, Aberaman, Abercwmboi, Cwmbach, Cwmaman, Hirwaun and Penywaun.

Fitting Wren kitchens

Wren supply rigid, pre-built units rather than flat-pack, so the fitting work is less about assembly and more about getting a dead level run across floors that are rarely level. Wren also deliver the whole kitchen in one drop, which means you need somewhere dry to store it and a fitter booked for a date that lines up with that delivery. We survey before ordering wherever possible so the plan matches the room rather than the other way round.
